Phenolic preparation that disrupts the cell by denaturing the cell protein. More effective against gram positive than negative bacteria. Little or no effect on TB or viruses. Its activity is reduced by the presence of organic material and blood as well as alcohol and household soaps. It can be absorbed through the skin and can cause neurotoxicity. Use only in special circumstances.
